Blackstone Came Boca Raton, Florida, to Strengthen Teamwork With a Build-A-Bike Event

Blackstone came to one of Its most prestigious properties, the Boca Raton Resort and Club,  for annual meetings that put a Build-A-Bike ® team building event, at the center of their sessions. Though Blackstone is a leading global alternative investment and financial managers,  it still believes it can work better, and smarter, by learning better team work.

Communication, collaboration, and solving problems made for a competitive environment, and a whole lot of fun. Laughing and acting out, as I am sure they rarely do, they finally got to their most heart-felt goal, building bikes and making kids smile. Learning about themselves and each other, they built bikes for kids who not only do not own a bike, but most likely have never seen such a beautiful property.

The backdrop for the team building event was magical, against the sea, palm trees, and blue skies, they practiced the companies principles – give back to others.  Getting to know each other was at the center of the event, and they came together for a really good cause. They built bikes for kids who have none. The payoff for their competition and working together – was giving back to some kids who really need a lift. Seeing shy kids smile and made the whole event come together. When one of the child’s faces come to mind, they will hopefully remember a bit about what they learned on their day next to the sea. Schwinn Works on Team Building with a Build-A-Bike Event in Boca Raton, Florida

Maison Brison, Dorel, and Schwinn, gathered in Boca Raton, Florida (near Miami and Ft. Lauderdale), from across the globe to focus on team building with a Build-A-Bike event.  Their goal, not surprising for one of the world’s leading producers of bicycles, was to Build-a-Bike for some kids who had no bikes. From France, Portugal, England, Canada and the US, they came to meet, get to know each other better. They grew from knowing each other through email and phone, to the physical; creating a long-lasting bond and giving back to the local community.

As they worked together to cheer on their team they learned about each other’s personality, their strengths, and how to solve problems. The world, suddenly got a lot smaller and easier to navigate. And making travel easier and more fun was the basis for the creation of Schwinn Bikes in 1895 by German-born mechanical engineer Ignaz Schwinn. In 1896 Schwinn entered the bike racing world and won…often. The company has gone through many changes, and is finally part of the Dorel Conglomerate. But the spirit of Schwinn’s creator, who survived all the odds when motorized vehicles began to fill the streets, and of course, the depression, survives and thrives.

On this day, they shared their good fortune with a bunch of kids, who likely would not otherwise have a bike. 26 in all. Rick Leckner, who oversees all of the company’s promotional, and advertising efforts said this, “Reaction was what I had hoped for—unanimously overwhelmingly positive, some even emotional.”  By Connie Timpson/Sr. Instructor/Performance Coach/The Leader’s Institute
