ASML Build-A-Bike® Event in San Diego, CA
ASML hosted a Build-A-Bike® charity team building event at their San Diego facility. Thirty-five senior leaders and team leads from both design and manufacturing sectors came together to break down silos and strengthen cross-departmental collaboration. The event successfully united these traditionally separate sectors while creating a positive impact in the local community.
ASML is a global innovation leader in the semiconductor industry, specializing in the development and production of lithography systems that are crucial to microchip manufacturing. Founded in 1984 in the Netherlands, ASML has grown from a small startup to a multinational corporation employing over 40,000 people representing 143 nationalities across more than 60 global locations. Their advanced lithography systems use ultraviolet light to create billions of microscopic structures on silicon, enabling the production of smaller, faster, and more powerful microchips that power modern technology.
ASML Leaders Bridge Divisions in San Diego, California
The Build-A-Bike® event served as a strategic initiative to break down barriers between ASML’s design and manufacturing sectors. The San Diego facility provided an ideal neutral ground for senior leaders and team leads to step away from their specialized roles and work together toward a common goal. This approach helped reshape perspectives, encouraging participants to see beyond their departmental boundaries and recognize the value of unified collaboration.
Throughout the event, teams mixed members from both sectors, creating opportunities for cross-functional interaction and understanding. The challenge of assembling four bicycles became a metaphor for their daily work – demonstrating how different expertise and perspectives can combine to create something valuable. The successful completion of the bikes and their donation to the Boys and Girls Club of East County not only represented their teamwork but also symbolized how unified efforts can benefit the broader community. The event proved that when design and manufacturing work as one team rather than separate entities, they can achieve meaningful results both professionally and philanthropically.
We extend our sincere appreciation to ASML’s senior leadership and team leads for their commitment to breaking down silos while giving back to the community. Special thanks to the Boys and Girls Club of East County for their partnership in making this donation possible.
