Akima’s Emerging Leaders Connect Through a Charity Bike Build in Washington DC

The Build-A-Bike® served as a highlight of Akima’s annual leadership training program for new managers. While the group started out quiet, the event getting rolling started invigorating energy not normally seen at leadership meetings. Many attendees entered the program as total strangers, yet the team challenges encouraged them to collaborate and get to know one another. As they worked together to solve problems and complete tasks, meaningful connections began to form. The event provided a relaxed environment where new leaders could strengthen relationships and practice working as a team.

Throughout the program, participants focused on earning the parts needed to assemble bicycles for local children. Their cooperation and willingness to help one another made the process both productive and enjoyable. By the end of the event, the group successfully completed four bicycles for donation. The YMCA of DC accepted the bikes and will help ensure they reach children who can benefit from them. The activity gave participants an opportunity to make a positive impact while reinforcing the leadership and collaboration skills they were developing during the training program.

We give a big thank you to Akima for their generous donation to children in the Washington, DC community. We’d also like to thank the YMCA of DC for helping connect local youth with these much-needed bicycles.
