The Waymo team gathered for a Build-A-Bike® charity team building event in Mountain View, CA on September 15th. Four engineering teams from across the United States and India united during their 2 and a half day conference. Their goal was to strengthen cross-team relationships and contribute to the community. Together, they assembled ten brand-new bicycles that were donated to Life Moves, an organization providing housing and essentials for people experiencing homelessness.

Since 2015, the company has advanced autonomous driving with a fleet of electric Jaguar I-Pace SUVs. The Build-A-Bike® event gave Waymo engineers a meaningful break from their technical sessions. Participants tackled communication challenges, tested their creativity, and enjoyed some light-hearted competition as they built bicycles for charity. It was an energizing atmosphere that reflected the innovation and teamwork driving Waymo’s success.

The room filled with laughter and encouragement as teams worked side by side. Many attendees were meeting in person for the first time, turning the activity into a fun, memorable bonding experience. By the end, ten gleaming bikes stood ready to make a difference in the lives of local families.
