Woodard Events incorporated a Build-A-Bike® bike building activity into their Scaling New Heights Conference in Orlando, Florida on June 13th. Participation was voluntary, and forty accounting professionals chose to take part. Teams competed through challenges, assembled 12 bicycles, and donated them to the M Family Foundation. It was the second consecutive year that Build-A-Bike® had been part of the conference.
Woodard Events produces the Scaling New Heights conference, one of the accounting profession’s premier annual gatherings. The event brings bookkeepers, accountants, and technology advisors together each year for professional development, hands-on training, and peer connection. Woodard has been serving the accounting community for over two decades.
Accounting Professionals Choose to Give Back at Scaling New Heights With a Bike Team Building Activity in Orlando
The activity was optional. Forty accounting professionals chose to be there, and that changes the energy from the start. A group that opted in has already decided to give the afternoon something real. What followed reflected exactly that.
Build-A-Bike® fits so well with a competitive professional group. Accounting requires precision, clear communication, and an ability to work through problems in sequence. Those instincts carry directly into the bike-building challenges. Teams that divided work clearly and stayed in sync moved faster. The ones that fell behind regrouped and pushed to catch up.
The energy and enthusiasm built steadily as the afternoon progressed. So did the camaraderie. It happened the way it usually does; people focused on the same goal, figuring out how to get there together. By the time the bikes were finished, the room felt different than it had at the start.
The M Family Foundation representative who received the bikes spoke about the impact on children and families in the community. For people who spend their working hours in the abstract world of numbers, a result that tangible is something else. Twelve bikes going to kids in Orlando does that.
