Arch Insurance Group brought their summer interns together for a Build-A-Bike® in New York City. The group of 11 gathered on a beautiful rooftop deck for a morning of team challenges and charitable giving. A little wind kept things interesting, but nobody let it slow them down. By the end of the program, the group had assembled bicycles for the Salvation Army. A representative joined them in person to accept the bikes.

Arch Insurance Interns Connect and Give Back at Build-A-Bike® in New York
For a group of interns, this was more than a summer activity. The morning brought together 11 people who had not had much time together yet. The Build-A-Bike® format gave them an immediate way to change that. The competitive challenges moved quickly, and the energy on the rooftop made the wind feel like part of the experience rather than an obstacle.
The setting added something to the day. Being on a New York rooftop, working with their hands on something real, made the morning feel different. No conference room could have produced that. Teams moved through the challenges with a focus that suggested nobody wanted to be the group that finished last.
The Salvation Army representative came to the rooftop to accept the donation. That gave the closing moment a real sense of ceremony. The bikes did not have far to travel, and the group walked and rolled them over to the nearby building together. That short walk at the end of the morning made the donation feel direct and real rather than abstract.
