High Point University Freshmen Build 150+ Bikes for Three Local Charities at Annual Orientation

Freshmen arrive on campus as strangers. By the time they leave a Build-A-Bike® event, they’re teammates. This transformation is exactly why High Point University has made this activity a cornerstone of orientation. It gives students their first real shared experience before classes even begin.

With over 1,500 participants and more than 150 bikes to build, this was a large-scale effort that required every team to stay focused and work together. The energy in the room was electric. Thousands of students united around a single goal with a real outcome on the line.

Students donated the 150-plus bikes to three local nonprofit organizations. Putting meaningful resources directly into the High Point community surrounding the university. For the freshmen who built them, it was an early lesson in what it means to lead with purpose. Along with a reminder that their impact as HPU students starts on day one.

We’d like to thank High Point University for making Build-A-Bike® an annual orientation tradition, and for investing in both their incoming students and the broader community they’ll call home for the next four years.
