This early May, Databricks hosted a Build-A-Bike® team building activity in San Jose, California. Twenty-five enthusiastic team members gathered early to jumpstart their day with laughter, competition, and a charitable cause. By the end of the session, the group had built four bikes for children in need, channeling their energy into a powerful blend of teamwork and giving back.
Founded in 2013, Databricks was built by the original creators of Apache Spark™, Delta Lake, MLflow, and Unity Catalog. The company offers the Data Intelligence Platform, which allows organizations to unify governance, analytics, and artificial intelligence under one lakehouse architecture. Their mission is to empower every employee—from data scientist to business user—to access insights using automation and natural language.

The Databricks team kicked off the morning by breaking into groups for the Build-A-Bike® challenge. While some arrived as strangers, everyone left more connected. The competition fostered quick thinking, creative problem-solving, and strong communication. Throughout the challenge, team members shared laughs and leaned on one another’s strengths. The event transformed a standard workday into a meaningful collaboration filled with purpose.
At the conclusion of the event, the team proudly donated four brand-new bicycles to Redwood City PAL. The nonprofit supports local youth, including children of migrant farmworkers. Tito Alvarez, a community advocate, accepted the donation and praised the team’s effort. He plans to share the moment at an upcoming local event. This meaningful gift will directly impact families in the community and left participants inspired.
