eBay gathered 26 colleagues at the company’s headquarters for a Build-A-Bike® team-building event in San Jose, California. For many on the team, it was their first time meeting in person. They marked the occasion by building four bikes donated to Live in Peace/ChaseLove.
eBay is one of the world’s largest online marketplaces, connecting buyers and sellers across the globe. The San Jose headquarters team came into this event with three goals: have fun, give back, and connect in person.
eBay’s San Jose Team Donates Four Bikes to Live in Peace/ChaseLove at Build-A-Bike® Event
For a team that had mostly interacted through screens, getting into a room together was already significant. Build-A-Bike® gave them something to do with that energy. A shared challenge that required real collaboration, not just conversation. Teams moved through problem-solving activities to earn their bike parts. The friendly competition gave people a chance to show up differently than they do on a video call.
The group brought strong energy from the start. 26 people who had mostly known each other only digitally found their footing quickly. By the time the bikes were assembled, the room felt like a team that had been working together for a long time.
The four bikes were donated to Live in Peace/ChaseLove. An organization led by Tito Alvarez — the youth director for Live in Peace and founder of ChaseLove. Tito runs a bike shop in East Palo Alto and works directly with youth in the community. The bikes from the eBay team went to an organization that knows exactly how to put them to work.
