Luminare Health brought 75 Client Managers together for a Build-A-Bike® team-building event in Rosemont, Illinois. The event took place at the Chicago Marriott Suites O’Hare on Sept. 1, as part of a multi-day training program. By the end of the afternoon, the group had built 10 brand-new bikes for local youth through Blackstone Bicycle Works.
Luminare Health is a third-party benefits administrator. They help brokers, HR professionals, and employers build and manage comprehensive employee benefits packages.
Luminare Health Client Managers Rally to Build Bikes for Charity in Rosemont
The event kicked off an intensive three-day training program for Luminare Health’s Client Managers, and it didn’t exactly start smoothly. A last-minute room issue forced the group to pivot. But quick help from the hotel staff got everything back on track. The group was a little apprehensive walking in, unsure what to expect from an afternoon spent building bicycles instead of sitting through slides.
That hesitation, however, didn’t last long. By the end, the energy in the room was at an all time high. The group was fully bought in, working together to assemble 10 brand-new bikes for local kids. The afternoon had its share of surprises — including an unexpected medical moment when a participant fainted right near the finish. The team rallied around their coworker and handled it with care, a moment that, if anything, only underscored how well the group had come together over the course of the day.
By the end of the day, the group had assembled ten bikes to donate. The completed bikes went to Blackstone Bicycle Works, a program of Experimental Station that empowers youth on Chicago’s South Side by teaching bike mechanics, job skills, and life skills to kids ages eight to 18. Bruce Winston accepted the bikes on behalf of the organization, which instructor Scott Ray Merchant called one of the best charity partners he’s worked with: “These guys are the best!”
