Wintrust Build-A-Bike® Team Building Activity in Chicago, IL
Wintrust Financial Corporation hosted a Build-A-Bike® team building activity for their 100 summer interns—affectionately known as “Winterns”—in Chicago, IL. This high-energy orientation activity gave participants a chance to bond while assembling bikes for local youth. Conversations sparked instantly, and laughter filled the room. A heartfelt moment came when Derek Brown, founder of Boxing Out Negativity, shared his personal story and thanked the interns for their contribution to his community.

The Build-A-Bike® event marked a fun and meaningful finale to Wintrust’s summer intern orientation. The young professionals jumped in with enthusiasm and openness. Despite meeting for the first time, they worked together like seasoned teammates. Their teamwork, creativity, and energy brought the room to life. Each conversation, laugh, and friendly competition built connections that would last far beyond the event.
The highlight of the event came when Derek Brown, founder of Boxing Out Negativity, addressed the group. He shared his journey and the mission behind his organization, which empowers youth in Chicago’s Lawndale community. The bikes built during the event were donated to his organization, bringing smiles and opportunities to the kids he serves. While Derek’s message was inspiring, future events might benefit from a shorter speech.
