LearnWell Teddy Bear Team Building Event in Newport

LearnWell brought their remote corporate team to Rhode Island for an annual Rescue Bear® team building event in Newport. The group spanned management, HR, IT, counseling practice, and other departments from across the country. Teams stuffed 42 plush bears over the course of the afternoon. The bears were donated to the Newport Police Department and the Newport Fire Department to comfort children during emergencies.

LearnWell provides integrated academic and mental health services for students and their families throughout the continuum of care. The organization supports students through clinicians, educators, and specialists in schools, hospitals, and residential programs. LearnWell’s work reaches students at some of the most vulnerable points in their educational journey.

LearnWell’s Remote Corporate Team Comes Together for Rescue Bear® Team Building Event in Newport

The annual gathering brought together employees who work remotely across the country. For a team that operates mostly through screens and calls, the in-person time had real value before the event even started. Day two was set aside for team development and relationship building. The Rescue Bear® event gave them something hands-on to do together.

Stuffing 42 bears is a focused, tactile activity. In a room full of people genuinely glad to be in the same space, it moves differently than it would anywhere else. Teams worked through the challenges with care, and the bears took shape steadily across the afternoon. Every group brought real intention to the work, knowing where the bears were headed.

The Newport Police Department and Newport Fire Department respond to situations involving frightened children on a regular basis. A bear handed to a scared child at the scene of an emergency is a small gesture. It can matter quite a lot. For a team at LearnWell that works with children in distress every day, the parallel was not lost on anyone.
