Compass Surgical Partners Come Together for an Amazing Bike Building Team Event in Durham, North Carolina

The Build-A-Bike® brought together a diverse group of leaders across departments and locations. The room included the full C-suite and key leaders from finance, development, and clinical teams. Participants also included surgery center administrators from across the country. Teams were intentionally mixed to encourage new conversations and stronger connections. Divided into ten groups, participants worked together to build bikes through collaboration and competition. The activity created a shared experience that supported alignment across the organization.

As the event progressed, the focus shifted from competition to purpose. The completed bikes supported Purpose Learning Lab, a nonprofit serving lower-income students. The experience reached a powerful moment when the children entered to receive their bikes. Earlier, the company president had spent time connecting with the children before the reveal. That interaction added depth and authenticity to the experience. The room fell silent as emotions surfaced and leaders reflected on the impact. Many participants stayed fully present, choosing connection over capturing the moment. The next day, leaders requested ways to relive the experience and share it with others.

We thank Compass Surgical Partners for their generous contribution to local students. We also thank Purpose Learning Lab for their inspiring work in the community.
