Florida State University Build-A-Bike® brings students together in Tallahassee, Florida
The Build-A-Bike® event served as the closing activity for the FSU TRiO Conference. The gathering supported and empowered low-income and first-generation college students. Through this event, hosted by the CARE program, students engaged in a hands-on challenge that emphasized teamwork and creative problem-solving. Though the number of participants was small, the impact was big. All in all, participants discovered a renewed appreciation for working collaboratively. Additionally, they reframed what effective team building could look like outside the classroom setting.
As part of the charitable component, the newly built bikes were donated to the City of Tallahassee Parks and Recreation Department. The contribution supported local youth while allowing students to see the tangible results of their teamwork. The outdoor setting gave the event a relaxed and uplifting atmosphere. Overall, it reinforced the idea that team building can be meaningful and enjoyable—even in more intimate settings. Watching the students come together for a greater cause was a testament to FSU CARE’s mission of community engagement and student success.
We extend our gratitude to Florida State University and the CARE program for hosting such a heartfelt event. Special thanks to the City of Tallahassee Parks and Recreation for helping make a difference in the lives of local children.
