Genentech hosted a teddy bear charity team building event in Newberg, OR, just outside Portland, on November 6th. The leadership team gathered for an offsite retreat at the Allison Inn and Spa. With fourteen participants, the goal focused on connection, trust, and leadership development. The team was still forming, so the event emphasized relationship building and self-awareness. The Rescue Bear® experience blended teamwork, learning, and community impact in one meaningful workshop.

Genentech Leadership Team Connects During Rescue Bear® Teddy Bear Team Building Event in Portland, Oregon
The team is still in a forming stage, so they went with the Rescue Bear workshop to get better acquainted and learn about their personality types. They discovered soon enough that they chose right. The workshop created space for honest conversations and shared understanding. During the activity, teams worked through several challenges before finally getting their un-stuffed bears and working together to fill them up.
Each success earned materials needed to assemble a stuffed bear. By the end of the activity, the group completed fourteen bears together. The bears were donated to Chehalem Youth and Family Services. One of the organization’s directors, Ruth, attended the event and addressed the group. She spoke clearly, arrived on time, and shared the charity’s mission. Her presence reinforced the real-world impact of the team’s efforts. The donation added purpose and emotional connection to the experience.
