AbbVie hosted a Build-A-Bike® charity team building event at its North Chicago, Illinois campus, drawing 13 energized participants near the close of a three-day retreat. Despite a smaller group than expected, the intimate setting fostered connection and friendly competition, all for a good cause. The event concluded with a heartfelt moment as a representative from Blackstone Bicycle Works shared how the donated bikes would empower youth on the South Side of Chicago.

The Build-A-Bike® event came at the conclusion of a three-day company retreat, but Team AbbVie still brought energy, humor, and focus to the experience. With just 13 participants, the smaller group allowed for deeper engagement and collaboration. As teams raced to assemble bikes, they strengthened interpersonal connections and celebrated a shared purpose: giving back to the community. The event provided a dynamic and rewarding close to their extended team gathering.
The highlight of the event came when Alex, a representative from Blackstone Bicycle Works (a program under the Experimental Station) addressed the group. He shared stories about youth from the South Side of Chicago who would be receiving the newly assembled bikes, painting a vivid picture of how the donation would unlock a sense of freedom and independence. It was a moving reminder of the real-world impact behind each bolt tightened and tire inflated. The event not only built bikes, but also built a bridge between corporate engagement and local empowerment.
