Twelve coaches met on August 30, 2023 at 95 Rockefeller Road to sharpen communication and strengthen trust. The session blended leadership development with fast-paced competition. What began as a focused team culture discussion quickly turned into a tight race to crack the final code.

They guide student-athletes through rigorous training, strategic preparation, and high-stakes competition. Their roles demand clear communication, quick decision-making, and complete trust in one another. This session gave the staff time to step away from the court and focus on their own teamwork.
Rutgers Women’s Basketball Coaches Build Trust Through My Rich Uncle Escape Room Event in Newark, New Jersey
We opened with a focused conversation on building trust and strengthening team culture. The group explored how listening impacts performance under pressure. Head Coach Coquese Washington encouraged the staff to enjoy the process and truly hear one another. The inside jokes started early, and the energy shifted quickly. Once the My Rich Uncle Escape Room began, the competitive instinct took over. Coaches analyzed clues, challenged assumptions, and adjusted strategies in real time.
The race to solve the final puzzle stayed close from start to finish. Both teams worked through codes at nearly the same pace. As one group prepared to enter the winning sequence, the other team literally boxed them out to gain a few extra seconds. The room erupted with laughter and urgency. The final moments felt like a game-winning possession. The activity reinforced communication, adaptability, and composure under pressure.
