Rain for Rent hosts a Build-A-Bike for annual meeting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Rain for Rent held its annual meeting at the Hilton Baton Rouge Capital Center for their Operations Manager from all over the US. Rain for Rent is a profit-oriented company committed to providing solutions to their customers’ water-handling, irrigation, and temporary liquid storage problems that exceed their expectations for service and quality. Many of the Managers in the group had never met until that night, but the feeling you got from this group was they are a team. The event started after dinner and a long day of meetings, Sarah Plumlee the contact, was amazed the energy this group had, the playful banter back and forth, the joking and laughter with one another, myself included.

Each team was given an envelope containing problems to solve, questions to answer, riddles to overcome. As the group solves the clues they are brought to the judges to see if they are correct, then the parts are given to build bicycles. I actually saw some teams trying to bribe the judges even though we said this isn’t a competition, they were very competitive. This sounds much easier than it was for there were hidden problems and obstacles that may surface along the way that as a team they must overcome. In the end the bicycles were built and everyone had a great time with the experience. The end of the event is when we introduce the representative for the Boys & Girls club to receive the bikes, many participants  said, “We should have had more bikes” they already had 10. The group asked for pictures of the kids when they receive the bikes, you see the kids couldn’t be there because it was to late in the evening. The operations manager from Detroit said “This was amazing and it hits you right here” as he tapped his heart.

Siemens Build-A-Bike in New Orleans Supports Caring Hands Program

Siemens Build-A-Bike(R)The Drive Technologies Division of Siemens Industry participated in a Build-a-Bike ® team building exercise on December 15th in New Orleans, Louisiana.  More than 130 managers and field service representatives came together and built 26 new bicycles for the local Boys and Girls Clubs.  The Siemens Caring Hands program was established globally in 2005 to coordinate volunteer activities worldwide. This program mobilizes employees to donate their time and talents to carry out Siemens’ commitment to impact the communities in which they live and work through volunteerism. Caring Hands program has three areas of outreach:

  1. Community Service – The goal is to engage and involve employees in the mission of corporate citizenship. In 2010 Siemens employees in the United States volunteered more than 41,000 hours.
  2. Disaster Relief – Caring Hands Disaster Relief involves employee fund raising in response to local, national or global disasters that impact our employees, operations or business partners. Following the earthquake in Haiti Siemens donations include water purification systems, portable ultrasound medical systems, critical care blood gas and blood electrolyte analysis, DOT-IT flashlights (with batteries) and more.
  3. Community Excellence Awards – These awards recognize teams of employee volunteers who undertake outstanding and innovative community service projects. In recognition of each team’s efforts, the Award includes a cash grant donation for the non-profit organization of involvement.

“Siemens Caring Hands is the company-wide effort that links employees across the country, believing that one inspired person can make a difference, but together we can change the world.” [Quoted from www.siemens.com]

The Drive Technologies Division of Siemens found a great way to celebrate the holiday season!  And the Build-a-Bike team building is an excellent example of Siemens Caring Hands.
