With 30 participants, the event aimed to foster teamwork and engagement among the employees while contributing to the local community. The event partnered with the Redwood City PAL (Police Activities League), ensuring that the bicycles assembled during the event would benefit children in the area.

The Build-A-Bike® event organized by Gilead Sciences was a surprise activity that concluded a two-day data sciences symposium. The participants, primarily introverts, initially approached the activity with some apprehension. However, as the event unfolded, they discovered the joy and excitement that came with building bicycles and contributing to a meaningful cause. This unexpected turn of events created a sense of camaraderie and encouraged active participation from everyone involved.

The event had a philanthropic element, with the bicycles assembled by the participants being donated to the Redwood City PAL (Police Activities League). This partnership aimed to provide local children with access to bicycles, promoting physical activity and a sense of exploration. The participants were thrilled to learn that their efforts would directly benefit kids in the community, further fueling their engagement and enthusiasm throughout the event.
